"Adventure"
1979 Grand Banks 32 Sedan
Specifications
Description
Grand Banks really got it right with the design of this wonderful little trawler. Handsome, seaworthy and comfortable. Considering there is only 32 feet to work with, this little boat packs a lot on and somehow manages not to make you feel cramped. The layout is simple and practical for a small cruiser with great accommodations for two people. Storage is generous and visibility from the lower helm is very good.
The 32 Sedan model is widely recognized as one that set the standard for pocket cruisers. The model’s success speaks for itself- there were over 900 built during the 31 years they were in production (1965-1996). There's not many other boats of this size with that kind of a production run.
The heavy displacement and full keel make it a very stable and well-mannered sea boat. It’s also extremely economical to operate- about 1 ½ to 2 gallons per hour- and she will go all day long at 8 knots.
If you are in the market for an affordable, safe, well built and comfortable vessel to do the Great Loop, run the ICW or just explore your local waters, the Grand Banks Sedan 32 is a great choice. "Adventurer" is a nice example of this great boat- she has what you need and yet simple in that she doesn't have a ton of systems to maintain- and certainly worthy of your inspection..
Details 1
The Grand Banks 32 Sedan layout is simple and practical for a small cruiser with great accommodations for two people.
Starting forward, there is a divided anchor locker, followed by a huge 6'4" x 96" berth. A pair of large drop-front lockers are beneath it, as well as a generous amount of storage forward of that. On the port side aft of the bunk is an enormous hanging locker, with shelves inside it along the hull side. There is a large shelf above that. A hatch and two ports provide light and ventilation to this cabin.
Across from the hanging locker is the entrance to the head. The counter top has a molded in sink with a single lever faucet and a large mirror above. The electric head is to the right of that, with a wrap-around shower curtain and shower wand. Storage is located beneath the sink and head.
Moving up into the main cabin, the lineal galley area is on port. The three burner stove and oven has a counter top that drops down over it when it's not in use. Aft of that is the sink, followed by the under counter refrigeration. Above the counter on the aft end is a storage cabinet. One thing about a galley up configuration- the view while you cook is great!
Across from the galley is the lower helm station. The electrical panel is also here. Visibility is good from here for docking in bad weather. There is more storage beneath the helm seat. Immediately behind the helm seat is a stack of five drawers and counter which serves as an end table to the L-shaped settee behind that. The straight settee on the port side converts to bunks when you need it for guests or the grand-kids. Both settees have lockers beneath them, so storage is abundant. The center-line drop leaf table opens to comfortably seat six, has a storage space beneath the top and a creative bottle and magazine rack beneath it.

All decks are teak planking with Thiokol caulking and stainless steel screws countersunk with teak bungs. The teak system is overlaid on fiberglass decks. Teak handrails are mounted on bronze stanchions atop a teak cap-rail. Bronze hawse holes have bronze cleats. There is a bow pulpit with stainless steel railing and electric windlass that handles the anchor. There is a hinged hatch on the forward cabin top and a teak hinged hatch in the aft deck for lazarette access. The lazarette area is huge and is, in a sense, "walk-in". The teak swim platform at the transom has a stainless steel swim ladder. The back deck has a bronze painted frame and Sunbrella awning over it, creating a nice living space at anchor or while under way.
Heading up to the flybridge, there is built in seating for six by the upper steering station, with space for additional seating on the open deck space aft. Visibility from the helm is great, making maneuvering safe.
