The strength of the Whitby 42' clearly lies in her accommodations. She is justifiably regarded as one of the most livable production boats found in this size range.
Sea Jay has accommodations for six in two staterooms which are generously sized and have large heads with showers adjoining them, plus the saloon. The forward stateroom has a roomy V-berth with with ample storage in drawers and a hanging locker. The main saloon features an L-shaped settee to port which converts to a double berth. To starboard are a pair of chairs - perfect for reading or just lounging.
The galley is to port (w/ nav station opposite) and is well suited for cooking both underway and at anchor. The galley’s location is perfect for keeping the cook both in the action and out of the way. Just aft of the nav. station is a walk-thru to the aft stateroom. The walk-thru is by no means wasted space, in addition to the Electrical Control Panel there is the fuel tank whose cabinetry provides a workbench, heavy tool storage and Chart and Nav Reference Library space as well as providing access to the large engine room located under the cockpit sole.
Continuing aft brings one to master stateroom w/ ensuite full head with shower, fore and aft berth arrangement with dressing seat on the centerline and with the addition of an insert, converts to a large double berth. There is a double door full height hanging-locker and six lockers plus night-table style cabinetry with drawers and more locker space. The traditional companionway provides an emergency exit stairs to cockpit.
The Whitby 42' has ample storage throughout, more than enough to provision for long-term cruising. In fact, throughout the vessel there are about 95 drawers and lockers including 5 hanging lockers, one intended for foul weather gear at the main companionway. The lavish use of teak makes the interior feel warm and luxurious, yet many opening ports and hatches provide light and cooling breezes below.
