Description

This Cal 39 is offered for sale by the original owner who took it on an extended cruise of the entire East Coast of the US, out to the Virgin Islands and then across the Atlantic. He wound up cruising in and around Europe for over 8 years before sailing her back to the US in 1997 via Trinidad , Venezuela and the Caribbean.  Note: The photo of the boat sailing was taken in 1995, off the Southern coast of Turkey.

ARTEMIS is a wonderful Bill Lapworth design, a solidly built boat which is equipped with every piece of gear necessary for ocean voyaging and prolonged living aboard for a couple, including a brand new diesel engine, EPIRB, watermaker, emergency liferaft, Galerider drogue, Monitor wind vane, AirMarine wind generator, auto-pilot, mast steps, custom SS boom gallows, 4 anchors, AIS receiver, radar, single sideband, storm  trysail, 150 gallon freshwater storage, 5 bilge pumps.  Artemis has been custom rigged as a cutter.  If you want a vessel that is ready to go back to Europe or around the world call me today!

Description

C. William "Bill" Lapworth designed the legendary Cal 40.  Its racing successes gave Cal a reputation as a fast, well built boat and sales grew.  He later designed the Cal 39 with better cruising amenities in a boat that was still quick and seaworthy.  The ballast is encapsulated in the fin keel and with its spade rudder and hull shape the Cal 39 has been reported to sail within 35 degrees of the apparent wind. Other notable features are a T shaped cockpit giving good access to the wheel.

The interior is traditional with a V-berth forward followed by the head to port and a leaded glass door liquor locker with a 2 drawer cabinet below it to starboard across from the head. There are bookshelves and cabinets above the port and starboard settees, storage behind the settee back cushions.  There is a generous nav. station to port at the base of the companionway steps.

The saloon table will seat 6 comfortably.  The  U-shaped galley to starboard at the base of the companionway steps, is more than serviceable, with double sinks on the center-line, lots of drawers and cabinet storage, Adler-Barbour refrigerator/freezer , 3 burner stainless steel propane stove and oven. Further aft is a quarter-berth/aft cabin which can accommodate two adults.  The interior joinery is teak and is very well done.
