1983 Contessa 32
Specifications
Description
The Contessa 32 is THE iconic blue water cruiser/racer designed by English Designers David Sadler. and Jeremy Rogers. The design team had great success with the Contessa 26 (single handed around the world by Tania Abei at age 16 in 1986) and expanded their design to the Contessa 32. To date over 700 have been built in the UK and Canada. This Contessa 32 was built in Canada and a previous owner was the famous Tania Abei. The Contessa 32 also was the yacht sailed around Cape Horn by the famous author/sailor/instructor John Kretschmer. The design has proven itself time and again over the years with its almost 50% ballast ratio, encased lead keel, skeg hung rudder. moderate beam and very nice tumble-home hull design.
For cruising on a budget, this is the little yacht for big dreams.

The Contessa 32 design has an incredible following on an International scope. 2022 will represent 50 years of building this beautifully design yacht. Over 700 have been built since 1972 in two locations, one in England and the other facility in Canada. The design has a fully enclosed lead keel, a full tumble home leading into a full hull shape below the water for easy riding in heavy sea.
She has a skeg hung rudder for maximum protection, along with a reverse transom, no flat or nearly flat surfaces to cause pounding in heavy seas. Ballast ratio is 47.4% which is very high, to create a powerful right moment which is critical in heavy weather.
The Contessa 32 is just a great sailing yacht whether a sailor plans to do local cruising and club racing or plans to head out to do long term cruising.
