OWNER'S COMMENTS (custom 12V system)

This boat was outfitted by latest owner for long term cruising on the ICW and ocean to FL Keys and Bahamas.  A subtle feature is the "house batteries only" electrical system.  The house batteries are a unique design providing both very high current and deep cycle capability.  For the entire 6 months cruise the battery switch would have been left only on the house battery position except for a one-time very unusual situation involving programming the alternator regulator. The batteries have a very low self discharge characteristic so that the "emergency" battery will maintain ability to start the engine for up to two years without charging. It was selected once in the entire trip. The house batteries provide excess ability to start the engine (typically requiring less than 0.5 AH) and run the halyard windlass such that there is normally no need to use the battery switch. The house batteries have started the engine with 11.5 volts showing on the voltage monitor. This "foolproof" system and the Xantrex battery monitor removes one of the most common worries of cruising: inability to start the engine. Too enhance this feature, the refrigeration system maintained desired temperature levels throughout the cruise on the lowest setting (due to enhanced insulation). Typically lights, refrigeration and other electrical demands were on the order of 30 AH per 24 hours at anchor.
