Description

PRELIMINARY LISTING SUBJECT TO OWNER’S APPROVAL

From it's origin in 1956 in the old Herreshoff facility in Bristol, Rhode Island, Pearson Yachts was certainly one of the pioneers in fiberglass boat construction. Much as Henry Ford revolutionized the auto industry, Pearson built thousands of boats at a price that beckoned whole generations of new sailors to the water.

The Pearson 38 is a performance cruiser which combines the best features of several other Pearson models. The objective was to produce a boat that could comfortably accommodate two couples in their own private staterooms in a length that could easily be handled by a couple.

Our particular offering has the preferred island berth in the forward cabin; you will also find some with the traditional V-berth layout on the market. Even today, finding an island master berth in a 38' boat is not easy to do- which reflects on the innovative thinking Bill Shaw had at his drafting table.

Overall, the Pearson 38 is a boat that nicely satisfies the needs of the sailor that wants cruising performance, comfort, ease of handling and quality. "Highlander" represents just such a qualities. Upon inspection you will see that she has had caring owners and reflects care and upkeep far beyond what you typically see in a boat of this vintage. If these are the qualities you are looking for, Highlander is certainly worthy of your inspection and provides a good value for your investment.

Accommodations
Forward cabin: Starting forward, the master stateroom features a 6'3" x 55" centerline island berth. There are drawers beneath the berth and cubby storage above along both hullsides, with a shelf storage unit forward. A hanging locker is on starboard and a bureau to port. Lighting and ventilation is generous, with an overhead hatch, two opening ports and reading lights. A bi-fold door closes to provide privacy when desired.

Saloon: Continuing aft, the saloon is bright and inviting, with a contemporary warmth. There is a liquor locker and bureau just aft of the forward stateroom on port, followed by a straight settee berth. The aft end of the settee provides seating for the aft-facing nav station and has storage beneath and behind it. There is an open shelf and sliding door storage above both settees along the hullsides. Headroom is between 6'3" and 6'5".

The centerline table has storage inside of it, is huge when both leaves are up and can comfortably seat seven. The L-shaped settee on the starboard side of the cabin can easily seat five, has storage beneath and behind it and can easily be converted to make a large double berth for additional guests.

Nav station: The nav station on port is aft facing and has a large chart table, electrical panels outboard and room for lots of electronics above it. Just aft of that is an extra large wet locker and a bank of drawers.

Head: Aft of the nav station on port is the head. It's positioning here is a smart thing- far away from the master stateroom and at the base of the companionway steps, so wet gear can come off in there without tracking it all the way through the saloon first. The surfaces are molded fiberglass for easy cleaning. There is a large mirrored medicine cabinet above the counter space and a built in hamper for dirty clothes. The shower wand is on it's own mixer and there is a teak and fiberglass shower seat should you choose to use it. Ventilation and light is great, with a large opening port and overhead hatch this space is really well lit. Galley: Located on starboard at the base of the companionway, the galley is L-shaped and features a two burner stove with oven, double stainless steel sink, an large 8 cubic foot icebox, tip-out trash bin, drawer storage and storage lockers outboard.

Aft stateroom: Oriented athwart ships, the aft berth is 6'5" long by 55" wide, with drawer storage below it. There is a shelf at the head of the bed and a large hanging locker with louvered doors. Ventilation is good, with two opening ports and an overhead hatch.
