"SUNDOG"
1999 Tartan 3500
Specifications
Description
First introduced in 1994, the Tartan 3500 is considered an ideal size for a family cruising boat with her open interior layout, wide side decks and of course, her outstanding performance. Besides being easily sailed, responsive, and well-mannered, she has had success in a number of fleets across the country.
The Tim Jackett designed Tartan 3500 is an excellent sailing machine. Her moderate beam and full ends, coupled with the shoal draft beavertail keel, provide excellent stability and sail carrying ability. The balanced spade rudder provides for fingertip control and excellent maneuverability, whether under sail or power. With a long water line, low wetted surface and powerful rig, the Tartan 3500’s inherent speed is within reach of both the cruiser and club racer, offering fast passages and competitive race performance.
The Tartan 3500 deck is designed to maximize comfort, safety and function. Wide side decks and shrouds set inboard afford easy passage fore and aft and allow tight sheeting angles for upwind sailing performance.
Commissioned in 1999, our offering offers attractive traditional styling, excellent performance, surprisingly large accommodations and the quality construction and finish that have earned Tartan the reputation they have enjoyed for many years.
“SUNDOG”, hull number 96 of 152 built, and has served her original owners well and they are now ready to pass her stewardship along as they move out of boating. With all of her features and showing as she does she won't last long.

Forward stateroom: Starting forward the master berth has a comfortable 6' 6" BUNK. There are molded nonskid fiberglass steps on either side to make getting in and out convenient. Four drawers are located beneath the berth, while above it on either side along the forward portion of the hull are cherry fiddled shelves. Aft of the bunk is a pair of louvered door lockers- port being a hanging locker and starboard being shelves- both with fiddled shelf space above them. Entry into the space is via a bi-fold door, while a bi-fold louvered pass-thru window can be opened to provide flow-thru ventilation while at anchor or just to open up the entire cabin space more. Additional ventilation is provided by an overhead hatch, two opening ports and a Hella fan. Four overhead and two brass reading lights provide lots of additional lighting.
Saloon: The cherry and Ultra suede interior feels elegant and inviting, with a straight settee on port, an L-shaped settee on starboard and a drop-leaf cherry table on center. The table has drawers on one end and a top-accessed storage space on the other.
The port settee has an aluminum water tank beneath the forward part and storage on the aft, with storage behind the seat backs as well. Above are a pair of louvered door lockers and a fiddled shelf.
The starboard settee has the refrigeration unit beneath the “L” portion of the seat and storage the full length beneath it along the hull. The seat easily converts to a 6’2” long berth when you want it. There is storage behind this seat as well, a large open shelf space directly above and behind it and two louvered door lockers above (one being for bottle storage) and a fiddled shelf forward.
Ventilation and lighting in this space is provided by an overhead hatch, four opening ports, a Hella fan, four overhead lights and two reading lights. Laminate house sides also help keep the space bright and spacious feeling.
Galley: The galley is J-shaped and on starboard. The cherry fiddled Corian countertops have an integrally molded in sink located on centerline. There is a locker beneath the sink. Moving to the right of that is the icebox, which has top and front access. Double-door lockers are above the counter above the icebox. Next is the Force 10 stove, with oven To the right of the stove is countertop space, with a top loading trash bin below it, a locker below that and three drawers above for utensils. There are two ports and a dorade above the countertop, so you have great ventilation when cooking.
Nav station: The nav station is aft facing and located on starboard behind the galley- tucked well out of the way of traffic in the cabin. Seating is snug and secure, with good back support. There is a port that opens into the cockpit, so communication with the helmsperson is easy if needed. There is storage under the helm seat, a large chart table that easily fits a chart book with storage beneath it, a fiddled shelf along the hull next to the table top and a locker above that with a fiddled shelf on top of that. All electrical and electronics are within easy reach.
Head: Located on port between the saloon and the aft cabin, the molded liner for this space makes for easy wipe down cleaning. As you enter, there is a molded shower seat with a locker below it as well as one above. The shower wand is bar mounted for easy height adjustment to suit your personal preference. A bi-fold smoked Plexiglas door secures out of the way when not in use and opens to keep the rest of the head dry when the shower is in use. Past that and to the left is a molded Corian countertop and sink, with a locker beneath the counter and a teak framed sliding mirrored door medicine cabinet above. The right hand door is hinged and has a drop-down bracket so that the mirror can be angled up toward your face- a creative solution to a common boat problem!
Aft stateroom: Entry to the aft stateroom is on the port side. The large bunk is 6’3” long x 5’8” wide. There is a hanging locker with a fiddled shelf above it at the entry to the cabin and a fiddled shelf along the hullside. There’s plenty of ventilation, with two ports and a Hella fan to keep the air moving.
