The Discovery 55 was first introduced to the United States at the 2003 Annapolis Boat Show where Cruising World awarded her "Luxury Sailboat of the Year”. Designed by Ron Holland to deliver thoroughbred performance while being easily handled by just two people. This is an outstanding yacht in turnkey condition and fully capable to transport you across any ocean in the world!

ACCOMMODATIONS
Luxurious, beautifully finshed interior! The yacht is finished in American Cherry and is light and spacious throughout. Three wide easy steps bring you into the main salon. A raised sole allows panoramic views when seated. The seating is circular and very comfortable! The beautiful salon table easily converts to a smaller coffee table. Immediately to starboard is the chart table which is raised giving direct visibility through the deck salon windows. In addition to the deck hatches, 2 of the front windows open to provide additional ventilation.
Aft and to port of the companionway is the galley which leads to the master stateroom, aft head and a walk-in engine room. Forward of the main salon is a guest cabin with upper and lower single berths, a second head and a forward stateroom. As well, forward of the nav station is a sea berth to starboard.

Owner’s Stateroom (aft)
Large and spacious with lots of windows and hatches for light and ventilation. The large centreline bed measures 6’6” long by 5’ 9” wide and is raised. Plenty of room and storage on either side of the bed. The ensuite head has a separate enclosed shower. An added luxury are the heated towel rails which operate when the central heating is in use. Another luxury is the full size washer/dryer which is fitted in the head.
Access to the engine room is from the head.

Galley
The galley runs along the port side from the owners stateroom to the main salon. Beautifully laid out and a safe design to lock you in place when under way. Counters are in Corian and are a lovely light shade. There are 2 inboard sinks together with a large sink for draining dishes etc. There is a 2 door refrigerator with a 10.4 cu.ft. capacity and a well insulated 6.1 cu.ft. capacity freezer. This can be used as a refrigerator if preferred. The Force 10 stove has 3-burners, a broiler and an oven. A microwave oven is also fitted.

Forward Stateroom
The bed is 6’8” long and has a maximum width of 5’9”. Shelves, lockers, drawers and wardrobe provide good storage. Plenty of light and ventilation provided by a large deck hatch which is positioned over the berth, a dorade and opening hull portlights.

Air Conditioning & Heating
Full tropical specification air conditioning, total 40,000 BTU, is fitted. Heating to all parts of the boat is provided by an Eberspacher Hydronic 10 hot water heating system.

PLUMBING
Fresh Water System
Fresh water is stored in 3 food grade, high density polyethylene tanks. These are completely taint free and do not suffer from corrosion. The total capacity is 380 gallons. Tank no 3 has its own rainwater catching system. A Great Water Yachtsman Watermaker is fitted and produces 18.5 gallons per hour. Hot water is fed from a 14 gallon insulated calorifier.

Toilets and Holding Tanks
The yacht is fitted with an electric Whale vacuum system aft, and a manual Whale vacuum system forward. There are two 16 gallon black water holding tanks which discharge by deck fittings or via gravity overboard. As well, there is a 45 gallon grey water holding tank.

ELECTRICAL
D.C. Electrical System
The engine and generator are 12v start. The engine is fitted with a 55amp/hr 12v alternator. Both the engine and the generator have their own 120amp/hr start batteries.
A second 24volt, 100amp hour alternator on the engine supplies the yacht’s main 24v system. The domestic batteries are heavy duty, deep cycle, sealed gel totalling 500 amp hour capacity at 24v (=1000amps at 12v). A 24 to 12v converter provides a 12 volt power source.
All chain plates, skin fittings, and mast are grounded to the ballast keel for lightning protection. Sterngear, chainplates, seacocks and keel are electrically bonded and linked to the common earth system.

A.C. Electrical System
An A.C. panel controls a 30 amp 240 volt ring main. Via a shore power connection there is a 110v AC ring main with sockets throughout the boat. There is a separate 5 kW step up transformer to convert US 110v to 220v AC from a 30 amp supply. An adaptor to supply 230v from a 50 amp US shore supply is also provided 150ft of appropriate shore side cables are provided.

Battery Charging
The 24 volt domestic battery bank is charged by: the 100 amp/hr alternator on the engine the 50amp/hr Victron Energie charger / inverter (2kW) an additional 100Amp-hour Victron Energie battery charger is also installed which also runs from shore power or the generator.

ENGINE & MACHINERY
Engine
Walk in engine room is fully lined with fire retardant insulation. The engine is a 110HP YANMAR 4LH-TE, turbo charged. The exhaust is fed through an HMI water separator which eliminates almost all exhaust and cooling water noise.

Stern Gear
The engine is mounted on flexible captive feet to minimise vibration. A Stripper Rope Cutter AM 15-3 is fitted. There is a feathering 3 blade 23” Auto-Prop.

Generator
An 11KW ONAN generator is fitted to this boat. It is located in its own insulated and sound shielded space under the salon for easy access.

Bowthruster
An 8hp SidePower tunnel thruster (24v) is fitted.

Fuel Tanks
The fuel tanks are made of fuel grade high density polyethylene. These are lighter, minimise condensation and are less likely to suffer from stress cracks. The total capacity is 229 US gallons.

INSTRUMENTS & ELECTRONICS
Raytheon Autohelm ST60 boat speed, wind speed and direction and depth systems are fitted. These are mounted above the companionway. A multi-function repeater is incorporated in the GPS/Plotter.

Navigation
A Raytheon RL80C 10” combined colour radar and chart plotter is fitted at the chart table.

GPS
A Garmin GPS128 unit is fitted at the Nav Station.

Autopilot
Autohelm 7000 + automatic pilot is fitted with controls at the helm. A handheld remote for the autopilot (ST6000R) and holder is located on the nav table.

Communications
SSB

An ICOM 710 Transmitter/receiver is fitted to the side of the Nav Station below the VHF unit. A cable link for a computer for weather fax is fitted and software is available.

VHF
A Uniden Polaris marine radio with DSC, together with one additional WHAM 900 wireless handset (new April 2004 with 3yr guarantee).

Satellite Telephone
An Iridium Satellite telephone with external fixed antenna is fitted. The phone itself is located in its own customised compartment in the navigation table and has data kit and cabling, 1 extra antenna and a waterproof case.

Navtex
A Navtex antenna and cabling to chart table is fitted.

Handheld VHF
A waterproof handheld Icom IC-M1V VHF is supplied. The charger unit for this is fitted into the chart table.

HULL & DECK
The Hull
The hull is made with Vinylester resin which gives superior strength. This, together with 2 layers of isothalic gelcoat provides a hull that is highly resistant to Osmosis. The forward part of the hull is Kevlar wrapped. There are 2 watertight bulkheads forward and a 3rd watertight bulkhead and door forward of the main saloon, adjacent to the mast. The hull below the waterline is epoxy painted before antifouling.

Deck and Superstructure
The deck is moulded in GRP with a balsa core. A bulwark runs around the whole deck edge to give strength and a feeling of security. Decks are teak laid. A fold out bathing ladder is built into the bottom transom step and a bathing shower with hot and cold water supply is fitted.

Windows
All windows are constructed of toughened safety glass – set in marine grade aluminium frames. The portlights all have integral mosquito screens. The deck hatches in the aft stateroom and forward state room both have Oceanair blackout/insect screens fitted.

COCKPITS
The cockpit is divided into 2 parts.
The aft section has a curved helm seat which provides good forward visibility and comfort for the helmsman. The customised pedestal has instruments, controls and a single lever throttle immediately to hand. Hot tub plumbing is installed in the aft cockpit and includes a titanium heat exchanger to provide circulating hot water, either fresh or sea.
The forward cockpit has well angled deep seat backs for comfort and safety. A substantial table is mounted centrally and incorporates a stainless grab handle and a central foot rail.
The cockpit is well protected by a large folding dodger. A collapsible bimini is fitted, and is designed with zip on mesh side sunscreens. A full sun awning is included, which covers the whole boat. A full cockpit mosquito screen in white/cream voile is supplied. This screen fits neatly over the bimini and has lead rope sewn in, to weight the fabric onto the deck.

DECK EQUIPMENT
Winches
Anderson winches; Four self tailing electric winches and two 2 speed self tailing winches.

Anchoring
A Lewmar Ocean 3 vertical capstan is installed and an 88lb Delta anchor self stows in the steamhead fitting. Two additional anchors are included; a Fortress FX 55 in aluminium and a Spade A140 in aluminium.
The stern is fitted with a stainless steel anchor roller on the port side, enabling the anchor rope to be led to an electric primary winch.

Davits
Whittall ED16 Stainless Steel Davits are fitted. The maximum weight for these Davits is 150lbs.

Miscellaneous
All stainless fittings are in finest marine 316 grade stainless and are mirror polished.
Near the bow there are 2 teak seats set onto the rails for ‘dolphin watching’.
The stern rail extends well forward and there are 2 large comfortable ‘wake watching’ seats incorporated.
There are opening gates to port and starboard for easy boarding and a side ladder and mounts is included.

SAILS & RIGGING
Selden in mast furling, keel stepped with a B & R rig. This does away with the need for running backstays and forward facing lowers. Hydraulic boom vang. The mast and boom are powder coated in white. 2 forestays; the outer carries a roller furling yankee (genoa) and the inner a roller furling self tacking blade jib. Both the headsails are set on Furlex manual headsail roller reefing units.
Spinnaker running gear is fitted.
A Twistle Rig universal joint and lines are supplied for great performance when downwind sailing.

Sails
The following are fitted: Vertical fully battened in-mast furling Vectran mainsail - Hood 130% furling Vectran genoa to outer stay - Hood 90% blade gib to inner stay - Hood *130% furling genoa - Ratsey and Lapthorn to inner stay (to be used as a Twistle Rig) with 2 Whisker poles (with powder coating finish) A Cruising chute – Quay Sails (approx 2000sq ft in 1 ½ oz red nylon)
