This three-cabin, two-head layout Catalina 42 is very comfortable and functional for cruising and weekend sailing.  The owner’s stateroom is forward with a centerline queen berth and the two guest cabins split the stern.  The galley stretches along the starboard side of the main salon.  Reverse cycle air conditioning and heat and tons of opening overhead hatches and side ports make for a bright and airy living space.  A nav station is located to the port side of the salon.

The galley stretches across the starboard side of the main salon with efficient Adler Barbour 12V refrigeration, a three-burner gimballed propane stove and double bowl stainless steel sink and built-in microwave.  Cabinetry above and below the corian countertops with drawers and cabinets offer ample storage space.  The refrigeration is both top and side loading for easy and efficient access.

The forward owner’s cabin is nicely separated from the main salon area.  A queen centerline berth with walk-around space on both sides is flanked by a hanging locker and single settee to starboard and access to the en-suite private head to port.

The aft cabins have comfortable quarter berths with great light and ventilations from overhead hatches that open to the cockpit (great for passage-making when you are down below and off-watch but want to be close by). Both cabins have nice storage with custom added shelving inside of the hanging lockers. There is also a fixed side port in each cabin for a water view while relaxing in bed.

The cockpit is where you spend 90% of your time on board…it is the most important space on any sailing yacht. A good cockpit layout needs comfort, convenience, and easy access to all of the yacht’s systems for smooth and safe sailing.  Catalina has mastered the sailing cockpit.  With long cockpit seating and a beamy stern, the Catalina 42 MkII cockpit offers the perfect space for comfortable cruising and entertaining.  The seats are wide and long enough to lay down and relax or to comfortably seat 6 for an evening meal.  Everything you need to sail this yacht, single-handed or with crew, is right at your fingertips without leaving the cockpit.

The primary winches are easily reachable from the helm and added stern rail seats offer a great perch while under way.  All of the cockpit electronics have been updated with a 2016 Garmin 7610 chart plotter and mast-mounted radar.  The Garmin autopilot, wind instrument and tri-data instrument were all replaced in 2019.

The Catalina 42 is designed for easy single handing with all of the running rigging leading aft to the cockpit.  The double spreader aluminum rig with in-mast furling main has stainless steel wire rigging and a rigid vang.  The genoa furling line leads aft and the outhaul for the main sail leads to the cabintop for easy handling.  Once away from the dock, set the autopilot into the wind, deploy the main and genoa from the cockpit and head out!
