Description

The Pacific Seacraft sailboats are proven blue water voyagers. As with any of her siblings, the Orion is built to a standard of excellence that rightfully sets her apart from the rest.

Any ocean voyager understands that a well-rested crew is perhaps the most important facet of safety at sea and Henry Morschladt, one of the founders of Pacific Seacraft, designed the Orion for just that purpose. Her full keel with cut away forefoot, well distributed beam and high aspect, well balanced sail plan provide excellent directional stability and balance as well as responsiveness. She will steer herself if you trim her out correctly.

For beauty she is hard to beat; with her wineglass transom, classic bow and graceful sheer she's lovely to look at and will fill you with pride every time you approach her. Inside she's a beauty, with lots of traditional teak joinery, heavy bronze port lights and 6'2" headroom.

This Orion has the much preferred "Plan A" arrangement with a spacious main saloon- a dinette area that seats four, fully enclosed head and V berth forward. There are sleeping accommodations for five.

Per foot of length, the Orion was the most expensive model Pacific Seacraft ever built. Come take a look at this sturdy little ship and discover what an opportunity she represents for her next owner!

Accommodations

"Saoirse" is the much-preferred "Plan A" layout of the Mark I series. Headroom is a surprising 6'2"- a lot for a 27' sailboat. There are so many small additions- too many to mention- that are little touches that make her special. A signal flag organizer, extra teak organizers, attachment hardware for securing things in various places to name a few

V berth: Starting forward, there is access to the chain locker followed by a 6'1" long V berth. There is a removable wedge insert and storage beneath the bunk, as well as a drawer and cubby on the aft end under the bunk. there is a louvered door locker aft of that on starboard, which is divided between hanging and shelf storage. Fiddled shelf space is above the locker. Lighting and ventilation are provided by an overhead hatch, one opening port, three cabin fans, one overhead and two reading lights and a deck prism.

Head: The head is located on port. There is a Jabsco manual head and a teak seat that drops down over that. A Corian countertop pull out sink stows above and behind the head when not in use. A nice size cabinet is above that, with another locker on the forward bulkhead. There is a large teak framed mirror, an overhead light, opening port and the space shares the overhead hatch with the V berth.

Galley: The linear galley is on starboard. Forward is the icebox, which is refrigerated and has some nice interior work done inside for compartmentalization. One example is the custom clear plexiglass cover to go over the freezer box. Next is the Dickinson two burner stove and oven. Beneath that is a removable plexiglass stop to keep pots and pans stored beneath the oven from sliding out when underway.

Next aft is the double sink, angled toward centerline and with a locker beneath. There is a lift-up counter extension which is mounted on the aft end of the sink.

Along the hullside are two sliding door cabinets and a pair of drawers. There is also a teak dish and cutlery organizer, a coffee mug rack, knife block and a fiddled shelf unit.

Dinette:  Across from the galley, the C-shaped dinette will comfortably seat four. There is storage beneath and behind the seat cushions and shelf space behind in the corners. Teak staving lines the hull above the seating area.

The galley and saloon area has six opening ports, two dorade vents and a cabin fan for ventilation. Four overhead lights, two Alpenglow lights and a couple of galley task lights provide additional illumination.

Nav station: Located at the base of the companionway and aft of the galley, there is a nice sized chart table, electronics and electrical panels located above it, a padded seat and back rest and storage beneath the seat.

Quarterberth: The quarterberth is aft of the dinette on port and is a great sea berth when under way. There is a fixed light back in this space along the cockpit well that brightens the space.

Hull and Deck

The Harken roller furling is placed well forward on the bowsprit and out of the way. A teak platform with double anchor rollers and a high bow pulpit make for safe work forward. Two beefy Samson posts and hawse pipes are at the bow. Substantial bulwarks run the length of the deck. All of the deck hardware is rugged, solid bronze and built to take anything the ocean can throw at it. There are ten opening ports, one hatch and two large dorade vents. A teak sea hood with ample drainage protects the companionway hatch. The cockpit is deep and easily emptied by two large drains. The engine, stuffing box, steering quadrant and bilge can be accessed through a well thought out hatch in the cockpit sole. There is a deep lazarette to starboard that provides plenty of storage. The cockpit seats are over six feet long.
