Description

Gulfstar Yachts was a large manufacturer of fiberglass sailboats and powerboats. They were built in the Tampa Bay, Florida area from 1970 until 1990 when Viking Yachts purchased the company's assets.  Vince Lazzara, one of pioneers of fiberglass sailboat construction, founded the company. Lazzara had previously been one of the founders of Columbia Yachts.

The 44 was the third of the center cockpit models that Gulfstar produced. It is a very sensible cruising design and is known for being solidly built, with quality systems and joinery throughout. A proven blue water circumnavigator, she is equally at home in her slip for luxurious & roomy living aboard in absolute comfort. The spacious cockpit and interior make the 44 one of the best blue water/ live-aboard cruising vessels of her size. There is just enough teak trim on her exterior to add charm, but not so much that it is a lifestyle choice.

Safety features you would expect on an offshore passagemaker are present on “Swan Song”. Wide, clutter free decks, 30” high stainless steel wire lifelines atop raised bulwarks and generous nonskid surfaces in contrasting color from the smooth surfaces tell the story above deck. Below you will find rounded corners, escape hatches in every living area, an automatic fire suppression system, well placed grab rails and other features are all engineered to provide the safest sailing environment possible.

The beautiful lines of this cruising yacht, above and below the waterline, are well recognized in the cruising community. With a well-earned reputation as blue water cruiser and a true live-aboard, she is ready to provide the ultimate cruising comfort for her new owner.

“Swan Song” has only had three owners and has been spending her days on the Chesapeake Bay in recent years. She has reportedly spent every winter on the hard, having been a New England boat prior to her arrival on the Chesapeake. She is #44 of the approximately 105 built between 1978 and 1984. She was repowered in 2001 and her owners have continued improving her since, with over $50,000 in improvements in the last five years alone. Sadly, time marches on and the owners find they must sell her.

This is an opportunity for you to own a lot of boat at a good price. Call for an appointment to see her today!

Accommodations
  • Teak and holly cabin sole
  • 6’2” – 6’6” headroom
  • Padded vinyl head liner
  • Galley and heads with white laminate and teak trim
  • Eleven Atkins cast aluminum portholes with screens
  • 6 Fixed lights pulled and re-bed (07)
  • 4 overhead hatches pulled, reglazed and rebed (07)
  • 4 Dorade vents

Forward stateroom: Access to the anchor locker is forward, with the 6’ long berth aft of that. There are two lockers with doors beneath the berth.  On starboard aft of the berth is a double door hanging locker with storage below; while on port are three drawers, a fiddled countertop and then another locker above that. Ventilation is from two opening ports, an overhead hatch and one of the CruiseAire AC/heat units. There is access to the forward head from this stateroom.

Saloon: Across from the forward head on starboard is an end table with louvered door bottle storage above and below the table. Continuing aft is a 6’5” long settee which can pull out to become a double berth. There is storage behind the settee; above are rattan door lockers on either end with a fiddled shelf in between. Across on port is a 6’5” long L-shaped settee with storage behind it and lockers above mirroring the ones on starboard. On centerline is a drop leaf teak table that can seat four.

Forward head: The forward head can be accessed from either the forward stateroom or the saloon. Surfaces are all white laminate with teak fiddles and edge details, making for easy wipe-down. There is a Vac-U-Flush head, with two double door lockers above it along the hull. The countertop and sink is located on the left looking into the space and has storage beneath the sink. The circular shower curtain converts the space to a second shower. A dorade vent and opening port provide ventilation.

Galley: The galley is on port and a step down from the saloon. U-shaped, it is designed for offshore use. The double sinks are oriented towards centerline for good drainage on either tack and face the companionway.  Double door storage and three drawers are located beneath the sink. Along the hull side is the stove, with pot storage beneath, a fiddled countertop surface behind it and the microwave oven above that. To the left and aft is L-shaped counter space, with a locker beneath the counter along the hull and four double door lockers above it. The aft portion of the L is the top loading ice box with dual lids and separate plates. This is oriented away from the stove and engine for better efficiency. Behind that and beneath the overhead lockers are smoked Plexiglas sliding doors with even more storage. There is an opening port which opens into cockpit- easy to be heard or to hand things out to the helmsperson

Nav station: The nav station is forward facing and located at the front of the corridor leading aft on starboard. The chart table has storage beneath the lid and louvered doors beneath it. The large seat has a padded backrest and storage beneath it. There is a fiddled teak shelf along the hull side. The electrical panel is located across from the nav and within easy reach; aft of that is a door to access the machinery compartment. Continuing down corridor aft are three large louvered doors – the first with shelving, the next two for hanging storage, with storage below.

Aft stateroom: As you enter cabin there is double louvered door shelf storage on starboard, with storage below. There is 6’1” headroom in the cabin. The forward end of the cabin has a counter top with storage beneath it. The huge master berth can be used in two ways- as a pair of 6’ 3” long single berths with a changing seat between them or as one large 6’ 3” wide by 8’ long berth with the changing seat insert in the raised position. There is storage beneath the berth and the changing seat. Ventilation is from two opening ports, a large overhead hatch, a dorade and one of the CruiseAire units.

Aft Head: The en suite master head is located on port and features a separate shower stall and a generous amount of storage.  Two rattan door lockers provide storage on the hull side above the head. The large sink has a generous amount of countertop space, with double door storage beneath it. Two opening ports and a dorade provide ventilation to the space.
