"Dress Blues"
1983 Bristol 41.1 Center Cockpit
Specifications
Description
"Dress Blues" is a very fine example of the 41.1 center cockpit keel-centerboard sloop. The Bristol 41.1 is one of the nicest yachts afloat and her build quality is legendary. The Bristol 41.1 is known as a gentleman's yacht and they turn heads in every harbor. The Bristol 41.1 was built in New England, and has spent the majority of her service there, always maintained in first class condition by a knowledgeable and indulgent owner and stored indoors in a climate controlled building. Unlike many New England boats, Dress Blues is equipped with reverse cycle heat&air. Since her recent arrival to the Chesapeake Bay the care has continued with winter storage under a full canvass cover to the boot top.
"Dress Blues" is offered for sale to facilitate a shift to a power yacht and ready to provide a great cruising platform to her next owners. If you are looking for a safe, comfortable cruising yacht, this Bristol 41.1 must be at the top of your list. See her now!

Dress Blues is a 41.1 Bristol that was built on a semi-custom basis with the preferred center cockpit. The hull is solid GRP to ensure longevity. She has a non-skid fiberglass deck in light gray with contrasting white waterways and trunk cabin. and optional tall teak toe rail (in varnish). The professionally maintained varnish was thoroughly updated in June 2010.
Dress Blues was Awl-gripped Flag Blue, accented with a Gold Cove Stripe, double white boot top and green antifouling paint; her appearance is as striking as can be! There is a full-length rub rail that is mounted high on the hull right next to the hull to deck joint.
"Dress Blues" was built in the heyday of Bristol Yachts to a design by Ted Hood. Ted's boats were designed to be moderate to heavy displacement boats that give comfort in a seaway but have the capability to sail extremely well across a wide spectrum of conditions. His keel-centerboard designs are known to sail effectively to windward when called to sail off a lee-shore or grind out an upwind passage.

Very comfortable for cruising with two couples. Each of the two cabins offers an en-suite head compartment. She can sleep an additional two to three people in the main cabin area of the vessel. The large forward stateroom features a double V-berth, complemented by hanging lockers, a dressing seat and plenty of storage. The forward head/shower opens into this state room as well as into the main cabin. The main salon has an L-shaped settee that wraps around the center-mounted dining table. This berth also provides for additional storage below, behind and above the berth. There is a TV and entertainment center mounted above the starboard settee berth. The L-shaped settee pulls out and forms a double berth. The dining table itself is mounted on the center line immediately aft of the main mast. The dining table has two large leaves that may provide a good-sized dining table. The Baltic Blue Ultrasuede upholstery and varnished teak interior gives the main saloon the warm and cozy feel of a fine yacht interior.
The navigation station is conveniently located aft and to port of the companionway facing outboard. The navigator's seat is separate from the settee and is secure. The electrical panel and the electronics are mounted above and along side this navigation area.
The galley on the 41.1 runs fore and aft through the passageway to the aft stateroom versus the galley on 43.3 which is a dead end galley and is located opposite of the passageway to the aft stateroom. The real advantage to the 41.1 is that it provides counter space on both sides and much more storage in the galley.
Moving aft through the galley we walk into the owner's aft stateroom. The stateroom on this Bristol 41.1 features a queen berth which is as wide as a standard but significantly longer. The private head on the 41.1 is located forward of the stateroom on the port side and is accessed only from the stateroom itself. This aft stateroom has both hanging lockers and significant drawer storage.

The current owners have overseen a major refit of the boat's sailing rig. A "Strong Tides Track" was installed to create a reduced friction luff system for the mainsail luff. A (5) Full Batten Mainsail (2009) was custom built by Larry Leonard of North Sails with two reefs, featuring single line slab reefing that is operated from the protection of the center cockpit. The main yard is at hand as well. The new mainsail drops into a North Sails "Quick Cover" system providing for easy handling of a full roach main. This new system drives the boat noticeably better in light to moderate air (relative to a furling mainsail sans roach)and is easily reefed by a couple.
