1983 Pacific Seacraft Orion 27
Specifications
Description
The Pacific Seacraft sailboats are proven blue water voyagers. As with any of her siblings, the Orion is built to a standard of excellence that rightfully sets her apart from the rest.
Any ocean voyager understands that a well rested crew is perhaps the most important facet of safety at sea and Henry Morschladt, one of the founders of Pacific Seacraft, designed the Orion for just that purpose. Her full keel with cut away forefoot, well distributed beam and high aspect, well balanced sail plan provide excellent directional stability and balance as well as responsiveness. She will steer herself if you trim her out correctly.
For beauty she is hard to beat; with her wineglass transom, classic bow and graceful sheer she's lovely to look at and will fill you with pride every time you approach her. Inside she's a beauty, with lots of traditional teak joinery, heavy bronze port lights and 6'2" headroom.
This Orion has the "Plan C" arrangement with a spacious main saloon- a dinette area that seats four, fully enclosed head and V berth forward. There are sleeping accommodations for five. This particular offering also has pressure hot and cold water and a shower with shower sump, something not found on many of the Orions out there.
Per foot of length, the Orion was the most expensive model Pacific Seacraft ever built. Come take a look at this sturdy little ship and discover what an opportunity she represents for her next owner!
Details 1
A great layout for a cruising couple or small family. Starting forward is a spacious "V" berth (6' 6" long X 7' 0" wide). This cabin includes plenty of storage for your cruising attire, with shelves lining both hull sides and storage beneath the berth. A full sized opening hatch, two opening ports and a pair of fans provide plenty of fresh air ventilation. There's also a full sized hanging locker forward on starboard, with a shelf above.
Aft of the "V" berth area and to port is a full sized head with shower. There is a large mirror, teak shower seat and grate and storage behind the head as well as below and above the sink. Ventilation is from an opening port and Hella fan.
The spacious main saloon (6'1" headroom) is equipped with a traditional dinette to port. The dinette table seats four and can drop down to make a double berth. Aft of the dinette is a quarter berth.
The galley is midships to starboard. Just forward of that space is another hanging locker, with a shelf above it. There is a generous amount of storage behind sliding doors above the counter, a stack of drawers beneath the counter and a pots and pans bin beneath the oven. Counter space is good for a boat this size; at the aft end the ice box top doubles as a chart table when needed.

The Harken roller furling is placed well forward on the bowsprit and out of the way. A teak platform with double anchor rollers and a high bow pulpit make for safe work forward. Two beefy Samson posts (capped with bronze Pacific Seacraft logos) and hawse pipe are at the bow. Substantial bulwarks run the length of the deck until reaching bronze scuppers forward of the cockpit. All of the deck hardware is rugged and built to take anything the ocean can throw at it. There are ten opening ports, two hatches and two large dorade vents. A teak sea hood with ample drainage protects the companionway hatch. The cockpit is deep and easily emptied by two large drains. The engine, stuffing box, steering quadrant and bilge can be accessed through a well thought out hatch in the cockpit sole. There is a deep lazarette to starboard that provides plenty of storage. The cockpit seats are over six feet long.
