"Thalia"
1985 Passport 40
Specifications
Description
JUST REDUCED. THIS IS A LOT OF BOAT FOR THE MONEY!
The Passport 40 has always been considered a top-quality bluewater boat. Designed by Robert Perry and built in Taiwan, the Passport 40 was launched in 1980 and remained in production through 1991, with 148 boats built. Aptly named, it is truly a vessel that can take you safely and comfortably anywhere in the world.
These boats are well known for their quality of construction, beautiful craftmanship and sailing performance. They offer a roomy interior with a two-stateroom layout, excellent interior and exterior storage and an absolutely magnificent galley.
The Passport 40 was obviously designed with live-aboard comfort in mind- while not compromising on safety or comfort at sea. She is fast, performs well and has a sea-kindly motion that lets you arrive at your destination rested. She can be easily handled by a couple for long cruises, yet can comfortably accommodate a group of friends for the weekend.
Our offering here, “Thalia” has had three owners since new. The second owners purchased her in 2005. They removed almost all of the deck hardware and the teak decks, then drilled out, epoxied and re-bedded the hardware. The spars were Awlgripped and standing and running rigging replaced at that time. Almost all of the interior wiring and plumbing was replaced, as were the fixed port lights, stove, head and headliner.
The current owners purchased “Thalia” with this listing broker in 2009. She was a gorgeous boat then. As you look through the listing you will see that they have continued to upgrade her significantly. With less than 500 hours on the engine, fiberglass decks and all of the improvements she has received in recent years, “Thalia” may very well be the nicest one on the market today. She is absolutely worthy of your personal inspection.

Head: Starting forward of the master stateroom, the head is fiberglass with gloss teak accents. A pair of louvered doors provides access to the chain locker in the forepeak. The aft-facing head is installed on a raised platform for a comfortable height when seated. On port is a molded in countertop with a recess-mounted sink. Above that counter are one single and one double door lockers; below are another locker and a plastic drop-front access door for access to thru-hull fittings. A large mirror is located on the left end of this counter. On the starboard side is a counter space, with two double door locker spaces above it and three drawers below.
Master stateroom: The large forward stateroom features a raised Pullman double berth on port. This is set inside an arched opening, giving it a cozy “bedroom nook” type feel. There are three huge drawers beneath it on the aft end, double louvered doors on the forward end and additional stowage beneath the berth behind these spaces. Teak staving lines the hullside, with a pair of fiddled bookshelves located along there as well. There is a pair of gooseneck reading lights at the head of the bed. Across on the starboard side are two raised and arched panel and louvered double door hanging lockers, with shelf space above them. Between those is a bureau area, with two drawers and a drop-front locker below the counter and a mirrored door locker above. Ventilation to this cabin is provided by an overhead hatch, one dorade vent over the bunk, two opening ports and two Hella fans.
Saloon: There is an L-shaped dinette on port, with a large fixed teak table. The table can be opened up, doubling in size, when needed. When folded it allows excellent access around the dinette and easily engine access on all sides. There is a teak rack on the galley end which is a great space to store salt, pepper and condiments. There is storage beneath and behind the settee; above and behind it there are a pair of arched louvered door lockers on either end, with a fiddled shelf space between them. The forward end of the settee has a large teak framed mirror above it.
On starboard there is a straight settee, with storage beneath and behind it. Above and behind it is another pair of arched louvered door lockers on either end, with a fiddled shelf space between them. There is a nook at the forward end of the settee which houses the brass diesel cabin heater; a storage locker is below the heater and there is a locker above and outside of the stove that houses the day tank for its fuel supply. tilation is provided by the companionway, two overhead hatches, three opening ports and two Hella fans.
Ven
Nav station: The aft facing nav station is located on starboard at the aft end of the settee. The fiddled nav top provides ample space for a chart book, with storage beneath the lid and a stack of three drawers below that. Along the hull side is the electrical panel, which is hinged and swings open for easy service. Facing you and above the table top as you sit at it is a hinged instrument panel which houses the VHF and SSB radio, Pactor modem, etc. This can drop down for easy service as well.
Galley: If you have never seen one of these before, the galley on a Passport 40 is great. Two can work in the space and there is lots of counter space. On the forward end of the U-shaped space there is a high backsplash separating the countertop from the dinette, which allows you to easily pass food forward when serving. There are deep double stainless steel sinks with a locker beneath them. To the right of that beneath the counter is a stack of drawers; to the left of the sink there is a large dry bin with top access through the countertop. Moving around to the hullside is the stove, with a large open cubby beneath it for pots and pans storage. To the left of the stove is more counter space, with a pull-out cutting board, two drawers and a drop-front door locker beneath it. On the aft end of the U is more counter space, with top access to the freezer and refrigerator boxes and front access into the fridge. Locker storage is plentiful, lining the hullside all the way above the countertops as well as back around over the freezer. Over the refrigerator box a metal lined recessed space is set up for a microwave; the current owners just use it for storage.
Aft guest stateroom: Located at the base of the companionway on starboard, this separate cabin has a cozy double berth that is also an excellent sea berth when underway. As you enter, there is a changing seat to your left with storage space beneath it. This space is often used for a “hideaway” head, though one is not currently installed (it is used for storage space instead). Above that and oriented along the hullside is an arched double door hanging locker with a fiddled shelf above. To the right is a bureau, with two drawers and a drop-down door locker beneath and a mirrored locker door above it. Teak staving lines the hullside, with a fiddled shelf running the length aft. Ventilation is provided by three opening ports and a Hella fan.
