"Syrah"
1985 Westerly Fulmar
Specifications
Description
This particular example of these fine boats is hull #277 and is a one-owner boat. In fact, the owner still has the original Lloyd's Certificate that came with the boat. She was featured in the 1986 Annapolis Boat Show and was factory customized for this owner with two distinct features:
An experienced Chesapeake Bay sailor, he was all too familiar with the light wind conditions the mid-Summer season presents on the Bay. He therefore had them change the standard fractional rig to a masthead rig, allowing for a larger headsail to compensate for those 5 knot days. Larger primary winches were also added at that time to allow for the additional sail area now obtainable.
The other change he had Westerly make was to convert the steering from a tiller to wheel steering. The purpose of this was to allow for maximum seating comfort without the intrusion of the tiller to the guests.
A change in the family's health sadly necessitates the sale of Syrah. This may just be your chance take advantage of the opportunity to own one of these well found vessels!

Starting forward, there is an access door to the chain locker followed next by the V berth. An overhead hatch provides ventilation, while full length shelving, lockers below and a hanging locker to starboard provide lots of storage; two portlights provide additional lighting. Another hanging locker is aft of that to starboard, while to port next is the head & shower, with another portlight and hatch to provide good lighting and ventilation. Storage below the sink and along the hull provide lots of room for the necessities. Aft into the saloon, you will find settees port and starboard, each with lots of shelf and cabinet storage above and storage below them. The port settee converts into a comfortable double berth, while back rails on both sides drop in to form lee boards when at sea. A teak drop leaf dining table with liquor locker provides plenty of dining space. Aft to starboard is the galley, with a gimballed propane stove, ice box, sink and plenty of storage. above and below. Aft to port is the nav station, with a generously sized chart and plenty of storage behind it. Following that is a comfortably sized quarterberth, with it's own opening port and full length shelf.

Her Lloyd's Hull Certificate says it all. A solid hand laid fiberglass hull, all bronze thru-hulls, a hull and deck joint that is bolted and then completely glassed over. In 1995 the bottom was sandblasted and completely redone with Interlux Interprotect. The keel is a bolted on fin type with a balanced spade rudder. At 6'7" long, the cockpit is perfect for relaxing together quietly at anchor in the evening sunset or for entertaining friends or family. The foot room is comfortable yet still just wide enough to brace yourself when the boat is heeled.
