Description

Hunter Marine has been building innovative, affordable sailboats for over 30 years. Their focus has been to provide a product that is easy to sail, performs well, is low maintenance and utilizes creative new ideas in construction and design, both interior and on deck.

The Hunter Vision 32 is a great example of that innovative mindset. The wrap-around windshield design that they put on this model in 1989 is now seen on many other yachts today as the "new deck saloon" styling. The control lines are concealed below deck and led aft into the cockpit, keeping the design lines on deck clean and uncluttered. The unstayed aluminum mast is a powerful performer and keeps the side decks clear and unobstructed.

Below decks, the interior space is what you would expect on a much larger boat. The dinette is huge and the large windshield forward provides tremendous light and an open airy feel. If you have trouble with tight or closed in spaces, this is boat you should look at! The Red Head is a great example of this popular model, as the owner has spared no expense to make a great boat even better. Reading through the listing that will be obvious. She is for sale as the owner moved up to a 52' boat last year.

If you are looking for an affordable, easy to sail and maintain boat that is spacious and ready to go, The Red Head is certainly worthy of your personal inspection!

Accommodations
V berth- Starting forward, the V berth is 6'3" long and has shelves running along both hull sides. There are deep storage lockers beneath the berth. This space is open to the saloon, but can be closed off with privacy curtains (tracks are installed, but curtains are not) when desired. There is a large overhead hatch with a solar vent and a pair of reading lights in here. With this configuration it inviting to use as a cozy nook for curling up and reading a book or taking a nap.

Saloon- The main focus in the saloon is the large, U-shaped settee oriented on centerline. There is a tremendous amount of storage located beneath the entire seating area. The dinette table folds in half, but when opened can quite easily seat 6 people (and their elbows). The table can be lowered to make a huge double bunk that is 7' long. Headroom is generally 6'3" in this area and the entire space is bright and airy, due to the large sloped windshields forward and two large fixed lights on either side of the cabin. Opening ports are in each of the fixed lights for ventilation. Overhead, curved ceiling lighting that is U-shaped and flush mounted illuminates the space nicely after sunset.

Nav station- Located on starboard, the nav station is aft facing and has a chart book sized table top with storage beneath it, a shelf outboard beneath the top and tubular chart storage.

Galley- Located on port, there is a double burner stove and double stainless steel sink along the hullside. Open dish and stores organizer bins are behind that, with drop front bin lockers above that. Beneath, there is storage beneath the stove, a cabinet beneath the sink and four drawers for utensils next to that. An innovative feature is the refrigeration island, which is located on centerline at the bottom of the companionway. The spill-over system provides freezer and refrigerator spaces. This island also is a great place to serve for buffet meals or horsd'oeurves when entertaining guests. All of the counter tops are Corian with teak edge trim and have an attractive appearance.

Head- The head is located on starboard aft of the nav station and is unusually large for a 32' boat. There is a separate shower area with a teak seat and pull out shower mixer. The head and sink area features a molded, easy to clean counter top and sink area. There is storage in the counter top and in a cabinet beneath the sink. Behind the sink is a molded tub for storage of soap bottles and other small items. There is a mirrored drop front locker above that for bigger items. Ventilation is provided by an overhead hatch and an opening port.

Master stateroom- Entering the master stateroom is from the port side of the boat aft of the galley. There is a large- 8' x 53" berth that is oriented athwart ship. Headroom over the berth is good and doesn't feel claustrophobic like so many do. There is a large hanging locker with a bureau shelf over that. The space is well lit and ventilated, with a fixed light at the head of the bed, two opening ports and an overhead hatch. A Hella fan provides additional ventilation when desired.

Hull and Deck
The Red Head's owner has been meticulous in his maintenance and improvements. Sails and Rigging
Strong focus was given to the integrity of the mast design. The advantages of the free-standing rig are in the absence of the compression forces, component loads and potential failure points caused by bolts, rivets and welds for stays and spreader attachments. The design also is such that, as the sail becomes over-powered, the mast tip will flex to leeward, allowing air to spill and bringing the sail back to an optimum working load.

All of the control lines are led to the cockpit and concealed below deck, keeping the visual lines of the deck clean. An electric halyard winch makes getting the main up a joy and the Mack Pack and lazy jacks tame it on the way back down. The lack of backstays allows a full mainsail roach for increased sail area and a lower center of effort to effect a more stable ride.
