1990 Pacific Seacraft Dana 24
Specifications
Description
Bill Crealock, well known as a designer of performance cruising boats, wanted the Dana 24 to have the same qualities of speed, balance, and comfort embodied in the larger Pacific Seacraft 34 and Pacific Seacraft 37. He wanted a boat that would be easy to sail, and that would sail well.
The Dana 24 exemplifies his success on all counts. Sophisticated hull design and a balanced sail plan give her the power to take on any sea while maintaining comfort and ease of handling for the single-hander or the short-handed crew. The Dana 24 combines moderate displacement with a high ballast ratio to provide speed, stability, and sea-kindly cruising performance. In addition, that fine underbody gives her another advantage that's often lacking in other small cruisers - outstanding windward ability. Reaching along in the warm trade winds may be part of the dream, but beating to windward is part of the reality.
Her long keel and cutaway forefoot give directional stability and superb balance for maneuverability and superb balance for maneuverability under both sail and power.
One of the joys of owning a small cruising boat is the ability to gunk hole, to drop the hook in a secluded anchorage or explore a tucked-away little cove that's inaccessible to bigger, deeper boats. The Dana's shoal draft makes her the perfect boat for such pleasures. She sails into hidden lagoons with the same ease that she takes to the open ocean.
The Dana 24 typifies the quality that the sailing world has come to expect from Pacific Seacraft. Everywhere you look, from her solid bronze fittings and hardware to the exquisite detailing of her teak joiner work, the unparalleled excellence of the master boat builder is in evidence. And the excellence is throughout, whether you can see it or not.
Pacific Seacraft has established a reputation as one of the foremost builders of quality production sailboats in the world. The Dana 24 upholds the family tradition. Painstaking attention is paid to every detail, from her custom -fitted teak joinery by master craftsmen to her hefty bronze fittings and flawlessly executed mechanical installations. The Dana 24 is a proud addition to the Pacific Seacraft family. And you'll take pride in owning her. Whether you want too take her across oceans or gunk holing along the coast, a Dana 24 will be the perfect addition to your family.
Details 1
Starting forward, the V berth is a generous 6'8" long and 81" wide. A custom locker is located forward and above the berth- larger than the normal factory spec and with enough storage space to hold spare sails, sail covers, etc. Fiddled shelves line both sides of the berth along the hull. Beneath the berth are two drawers and a drop-front locker. The dinette top, which slides out and attached to the compression post, also stores neatly beneath the berth when in not in use.
Opposing dinette seating on either side provide 6' 6" single berths. Cushions and fabric were replaced in 2000. There is storage beneath and behind each settee, with fiddled shelves above and behind. Rich teak staving lines the hull sides.
On the aft end of the starboard settee, a custom folding teak navigation top provides a place to use a laptop or chart book. This is mounted on the forward side of a teak hanging locker, with a shelf space above that.
The cabin sole is teak and holly, with solid teak banding edging the hatches and hatch openings. Overhead, there are continuous teak hand holds and an insulated, padded headliner, with zippers for access to the deck hardware for re-bedding and the electrical wiring.
Aft of the port settee is the galley. There is a two burner stove and oven, sink and icebox. Along the hull sides are sliding door fronted lockers, with additional storage beneath the stove and beneath the sink. A drop-down counter top extension provides additional work area when needed.
Across from the galley is the enclosed head. The Groco head is aft, with a wet locker behind that. Above and behind the countertop and sink are shelf and locker storage, with additional locker space below the sink. There is a pull-out shower wand and teak shower grate, with a large teak mirror and grab bar on the forward bulkhead. Lighting and ventilation are from an overhead light and opening port.
