Description

The largest model of one of the world's finest cruising boats, "Ocean Child" is an excellent choice for bluewater cruising. These boats rarely come to market. Her construction is to ABS offshore standards. She is well balanced and a pleasure to sail, plus fully equipped and well maintained. Designed by Bill Crealock, the Pacific Seacraft 44 is built with an emphasis on cruising safely and in comfort. Easily handled under power or sail, the 44 is a fast cruising yacht capable of making 175+ NM/day under sail in good conditions. "The Evolution of the Breed" as Mr. Crealock puts it, shows on closer examination some significant design modifications which give the 44 uncommon balance, with a reassuring motion - even in heavy sea conditions. The lines on the 44 are more powerful than on earlier designs. There is slightly less overhang and a longer waterline. Built with the now-famous Crealock canoe stern, admired by many for its aesthetic appeal, the Pacific Seacraft 44 is also an improvement over other double-enders and flat stern yachts: offering necessary reserve buoyancy without presenting too much surface to following seas. Many sailors consider that the stern has more effect on the motion of a yacht than does the bow, and in breaking following seas the PS-44's canoe stern 'will perform like a bow'.

On a passage going forward in rough weather you will appreciate the 6 inch high bulwarks that totally enclose the deck, and the 30 inch high stainless steel rails and sturdy double lifelines.

No other production sailing yacht comes close to the overall quality of construction and quality of the equipment of the Pacific Seacraft 44. Solid cast and reinforced hatches, solid bronze all opening ports, substantial bronze winches and bronze seacocks that are thru-bolted to the hull.

"Ocean Child" is a vessel that has been cruised and well maintained by a knowledgeable and caring owner. She also reflects less wear than many other vessels of her pedigree, as she has only been used six months of the year for the twelve years they have owned her.

Buy this 44' Pacific Seacraft for the price of a late model Pacific Seacraft 40. It is your opportunity now to own this highly respected performance cruising cutter at an unbelievable price. This fast, safe and comfortable yacht will take you anywhere your cruising dreams desire. She is well equipped and ready to go. Please, call us for an appointment to inspect her, now.

Accommodations
Below decks artistry and experience at sea are combined to create a livable interior thoughtfully arranged to provide privacy and comfort for two couples.

The two master staterooms are comfortable, spacious and well ventilated; each has an ensuite head with shower, cedar hanging lockers and plenty of storage space.

The galley, large and J-shaped, is one of the largest you will see on a boat this size. There is room for two to work- yet brazing on either tack is easily accomplished- and the amount of counter space is phenomenal. Forward of that, the U-shaped dinette is spacious, comfortable and easy to move around. The dinette extension table can be put on to increase seating capacity to eight. Across on starboard is a large settee with a lee cloth and an entertainment center behind it, while aft of that is the forward facing nav station, with a large chart table and everything you need conveniently at your fingertips.

Hull and Deck
Her hull is hand laminated biaxial fiberglass, balsa cored to American Bureau of Shipping's offshore rule. Her full skeg mounted rudder is supported by a high strength manganese bronze gudgeon. Vinylester resin was utilized for high blister resistance. Primary bulkheads are bonded into hull and deck and then thru bolted in place.

Built for a life at sea, she incorporates her now famous canoe stern which gives necessary reserve buoyancy without providing excessive stern area to following seas. This is a sailor's vessel! Unobstructed decks provide sure footing in all weather conditions. The high backed cockpit coamings, deep well and wide bridge deck make for comfortable, secure seating while under sail or power. Seats are 7'8" long, so there is plenty of room to stretch out in comfort. A hot and cold water shower is stored in the cockpit coaming. The wheel steering is a WHITLOCK pedestal with 36" destroyer wheel, 5" binnacle compass, brake, and offset stainless steel pedestal guard. There is a cockpit table with seating for four. 1 1/2" cockpit drains make for a quick bailing cockpit. There are seventeen solid bronze opening ports and five hatches provide fresh air below decks. All cleats, ports, winches and chocks are solid bronze. High (30") stanchions are vertically bolted to 6" bulwarks which completely encircle the deck. This makes for 36" lifelines for safety. The bulwarks are capped with custom made teak cap rails with hand fitted butterfly joints, another example of Pacific Seacraft's great attention to detail. Deck drains are molded in to keep the decks dry and the nonskid pattern is deep and sure footed.

One unique feature of Ocean Child is her custom curved boarding ladder. It is mounted on a swivel on the port side and curves to match the hull in both directions- when down it curves slightly under the boat and when swiveled in it's up position it follows the curve of the pushpit railing. It also has three rungs below the water, so it is very comfortable to use.
