Description

Catalina Yachts is one of the largest boat manufacturers in the world, with over 60,000 boats manufactured to date. There are still more used Catalinas sold in the US than any other sailboat brand.

In July of 1969 Frank Butler, formerly of Columbia Yachts, built Catalina’s first model, the Catalina 22, in North Hollywood, CA. The company hoped to build 100 boats if all went well. There were over 15,000 of the original Mark I versions built, more than slightly exceeding Frank’s expectations.

In 1982 the first Catalina 36 was completed at the Woodland Hills, CA plant. With nearly 3,000 boats sold over the following 26 years, the Catalina 36 is arguably the most popular sailboat of this size ever built. Designed by in-house naval architect Gerry Douglas, the Catalina 36 measures 36' 4" length overall with a beam of 11' 11". The Catalina 36 MK II replaced the original model in 1995 and shares the same principal dimensions as the original. The beam is carried further aft, resulting in a significantly larger cockpit and a more comfortable and roomy quarter berth cabin. One of the best design efforts put forth by Catalina Yachts; in 1995 this sailboat took honors as Cruising World's "Boat of the Year".

Because the Catalina 36 is easily handled by a couple, has a big comfortable cockpit, a spacious interior with two private cabins and the integrity to pursue cruising dreams, many experienced sailors consider the Catalina 36 the perfect boat for their sailing lifestyle. The Catalina 36 is the perfect boat for the growing family, or the couple that just wants more space on a boat. With its big cockpit and spacious interior, it is comfortable for two couples, or just as easily single-handed by one.

This boat is a nice example of this classic design and is certainly worthy of your inspection. She clean and won't last long. Call and make an appointment to see her today!

Accommodations

Forward stateroom:  The berth in the forward stateroom can be configured as two singles or you can put the filler in to make an 84’ x 84’ x 20” berth. Fiddled shelves line the hullsides and across the foot of the bed. There is ash staving above the shelves to the deck. Beneath the berth are two tip-out bins and three drawers. On starboard is a double doored hanging locker, with a shelf above that and second locker with mirrored sliding doors above that.   On port is a private entry to the head. Lighting and ventilation are provided by an overhead hatch a Hella fan and two reading lights. Headroom in the forward stateroom is 6’2”.

Head:  Entry to the head is from either the forward cabin or the saloon. Entering the head from the saloon the toilet is directly ahead, with a tip-out bin behind the seat and a locker with shelves above that. To the right is the countertop and sink, with a locker beneath it and another with sliding mirrored doors above. To the right of the sink is a shower seat. Lighting and ventilation in this space is provided by an overhead hatch, an opening port, and a florescent light. Headroom in here is 6’1”.

Saloon:  Moving aft from the forward cabin and on starboard there is an entertainment cabinet with a sliding tambour door.  Beneath that is a stack of three drawers and a drop-front door locker. Aft of that on starboard are two seats with an inlaid game table between them. The table also works great as a dining area for two, or it can be lowered to make a straight 6’4” berth. Above and behind that area are two lockers with louvered doors and fiddled shelves above them. Between them is a fixed hull side light and another shelf area. On the port side is a large L-shaped settee. The dinette table is bulkhead mounted and slides down to provide comfortable seating for four. When lowered fully the table serves as a filler to make a 76” x 45” berth. Above and behind is shelf space, framed by lockers on either side and hull side window between them.

Lighting and ventilation in the saloon, galley and nav areas is provided by two fixed hull side lights, four fixed housetop lights, three opening ports, an opening hatch and two dorade vents. Headroom in the saloon is 6’4”.

Nav station:  The Nav station is on starboard at the aft end of the seating. There is storage beneath the desk lid and an electrical panel above that.  Headroom at the Nav is 6’2”.

Galley:  The Galley is on port at the base of the companionway. Facing forward, the deep double sinks are oriented toward centerline. Beneath them is a tip out locker and large drawer. On the corridor side there is a tip out organizer bin and two drawers. Moving toward the hull side there is a top accessed dry bin that is 33”x15”x21”.  Continuing along the hull side is a two-burner stove with oven and a pot and pan locker beneath it.  Next aft is the icebox with double lids and refrigeration and a freezer box. Lining the hull side behind the organizer cubbies. Above those are storage lockers lining the hull side and have sliding doors. Additional counter space runs along the back of the galley area. Headroom in the galley is 6’3”

Aft stateroom:  Headroom in here is 6’1”. As you enter the aft cabin, there is a hanging locker, three drawers and a tip out bin to your left. A fiddled shelf runs along the hull side, while at the aft end is a wet hanging locker with a mirrored door. Ash staving lines the hull above the shelf on starboard.

The athwartship berth is a full Queen size, with nice headroom and a “headboard” area that is comfortable for sitting up in bed and reading or whatever. The space is well lit, with an overhead hatch, a fixed light in the hull side, three opening ports, a Hella fan and two reading lights.

One of the signature Catalina 36 features is the fiddled counter that runs the width of the bulkhead behind the galley. There is a sliding plexiglass door, allowing for personal delivery of your morning paper and cup of coffee by the help (Help not included).
