Description

'Clytie' is hull number four of the rare and beautiful Com-Pac 35's, built by the Hutchins Company in Clearwater, Florida. The Hutchins family have been building the Com-Pac Sailboat line since 1974 in Florida. The Com-Pac 35 was designed by Charley Morgan and features the famous integral Scheel keel with a 4' draft, a 12' beam that allows for a voluminous interior and a “Euro-style” reverse transom with an integral swim platform and shower. A traditionally styled, shoal draft, premium quality yacht, the Com-Pac 35 is a great choice for exploring the islands, offshore cruising, or club racing.

‘Clytie’ is a truly fine example of a Com-Pac 35 not to be missed and she offers many features typically reserved for larger sailing yachts. She has been very well-loved by both of her two owners, living and sailing in freshwater until 2002 on the great lakes, where she was stored indoors each year for the long winter season. Her second (present) owners found her and shipped her to the Chesapeake Bay, where they have been very diligent in their upkeep of this fine craft. 'Clytie' has all of her exterior teak done in Cetol (except the swim platform) and even her fine interior woodwork has Cetol throughout. This is extremely rare in the Com-Pac 35's, and this vessel really shines both inside and out. With only 1300 hours on her engine, she has been sailed very gently through the years and it shows!

If you have been hunting for a larger Com-Pac on the used market, you know that they are rare and this vessel is not to be missed! Call the listing broker today to take a look at this beauty!

Accommodations / Vessel walk-thru

Forward stateroom:  Starting all the way forward there is a rattan door anchor locker.  The berth is at a nice height to just sit down and has a removable center insert.  The berth in the master stateroom is 6’6” x 10” x 6’9”.  Beneath the berth there is a rattan door locker; on either side under the berth are top access lockers.  Aft of the berth is a double door hanging locker on starboard and a cabinet with three drawers on port and a seat.  Both sides have fiddled shelves that run all the way to the bow.  Lighting and ventilation are great in here, with an overhead hatch, two opening ports, two Hella fans, two reading lamps, one wall-mounted overhead light and an AC vent.  The headroom in this space is 6’3”.

Salon:  Moving aft into the salon, there is an L-shaped dinette on port. Beneath the seating is a front access locker and top access to the other spaces below the seats.  There is more storage behind the seat back along the hull. The seat easily slides out to make a double berth when needed. Above and behind the settee is an open shelf space with a fiddle, framed by a pair of double door rattan lockers. The dinette table is bulkhead mounted and has shelf and glassware storage behind it.

On starboard, there are two club chairs, with a tablespace and drawers between them. Beneath each seat is a rattan doored locker. Above the forward seat is a fiddled bookshelf. Above the center, there is the stereo, TV and DVD player.  The headroom in the salon is 6’4”.

Nav station:  The aft saloon club chair also serves as seating at the nav station.  The nav tabletop is unusually large and has lots of room underneath for chart books.  Under that table are two drawers and three spaces for map tubes.  There is also a storage well along the hullside and behind the seat.  Headroom at the Nav is 6’5”.

Head:  The head is located at the base of the companionway on starboard.  As you enter, the separate stall shower space is first.  There is a plexiglass divider between the shower and sink area. To the right of the shower along the hullside is a molded integral sink.  A top-loading hamper is to the right of that.  Beneath the counter is a locker with double rattan doors.  Above and behind is a medicine cabinet with sliding mirrored doors.  Ventilation in this space is provided by one opening port, an overhead hatch, and a Caframo fan.  Lighting is provided by two wall-mounted lights.  Headroom is 6’2”.

Galley:  The galley is located at the base of the companionway on port and is L- shaped.  Headroom in the galley is 6’6”.  The deep double sink is oriented toward the centerline.  Beneath the sink is a locker, 3 drawers and a tip-out sponge holder.  To the left of the sink is a top-loading icebox with refrigeration.  Continuing along the hullside there is an alcohol stove and oven, with pot and pan storage beneath the stove.  Above the counter and along the hull is a microwave and two lockers.  There is a horizontal stainless steel grab bar beneath the sink and a vertical grab bar to the right of the sink.

Ventilation in the galley, saloon and nav areas is provided by an overhead hatch, one Dorade vent and six opening ports. Lighting is provided by five brass reading lights and two bulkhead-mounted overhead lights.

Aft stateroom:  The aft cabin is at the base of the companionway aft of the galley and has 6’3” headroom.  The cabin sole is nonskid fiberglass for sure footing.  There is a double door locker with shelves and a fiddled counter space above that.  The berth is 28” x 48” x 87”.  Lighting and ventilation in the space are provided by one overhead hatch, one opening port, one Hella fan, one reading lamp and one wall-mounted lamp.

The story of the name Clytie

CLYTIE (also CLYTIA or CLYTE) This nymph was the daughter of Oceanus. Helios, the god of the sun, fell in love with her, but soon abandoned Clytie for the love of Leucothoe. Clytie wasted away with love and turned into a heliotrope, the flower whose face follows the sun’s course across the sky.

Designer's Comments by Charley Morgan

I was delighted when the Hutchins family asked me to design a new yacht as the latest addition to Com-Pac Yacht's line of "Good Little Ships."

The Com-Pac development and marketing team had few limitations beyond - It must be a shoal draft, stable, sea-kindly, and fast enough to give good results under PHRF rules.

We knew we couldn't go wrong relying on the tried-and-true Herreshoff practice of combining generous sail plan, moderate displacement, long waterline, generous beam, high ballast/displacement ratio, and the redeeming benefits of shoal draft, made amazingly efficient using the famous Henry Scheel Keel configuration. The final result is the Com-Pac 35. We have presented a hull and keel combination that in conjunction with the sail plan will give the maximum performance possible without sacrificing the comfort and convenience you have come to expect from Com-Pac Yachts. A traditionally styled, shoal draft, cruising yacht? YES! A high-tech, performance-oriented underbelly and sail plan, establishing if desired, a club-racing contender? YES!

The 12' beam allows for a voluminous interior. From the aft cabin with double berth to the forward cabin with a large sea-going V-berth, every inch of the Com-Pac 35 interior has been completely thought out with the cruising sailor in mind. The interior is complete, private, comfortable, and functional. An interesting adjunct to the livability of the Com-Pac 35 is the integrating of stereo, television, video player, and microwave oven as standard equipment.

The most exciting part of this project has been the design concept. While we have maintained all the principles that have made Com-Pac a success, such as, traditional styling, cruising comfort, quality construction, and competitive pricing, the new Com-Pac 35 will herald the beginning of a new concept for a Com-Pac Yacht. Scheel Keel, "Euro-style" transom, hardware selection, interior layout, and overall appearance are but a few of the obvious items that attest to the Hutchins Company's desire to offer a no-nonsense, premium quality yacht that embodies all the elements necessary in today's demanding marketplace.

I am proud to be a part of the Hutchins Company's continuing program of design and development.

--Charley Morgan
