Not often available (especially in the States), the Westerly Oceanquest is a quality cruiser from the renowned British builder Westerly Yachts.
Typical of the relationship between Westerly and renowned designer Ed Dubois, the Oceanquest 35 combines Westerly’s flair for interior design and styling with the proven expertise of one of the world’s top yacht designers. Traditional in style, well balanced and supremely seaworthy, she will provide a rewarding turn of speed.
A high standard of finish and attention to detail throughout demonstrates Westerly’s modern style while retaining the company’s traditional values of craftsmanship and luxury. "Blue Diamond" is a fine example of her type.
Telling of this quality is the fact that we have had a number of buyers come all the way from England to purchase Westerly's from us, sailing them back home proudly. Built to Lloyd's specifications, these are all ocean worthy boats that I personally would have no qualms sailing across the ocean in. They are just one of those boats that will take care of you if you can't take care of yourself.
With the interior space one would expect to find on a forty footer, this is a spacious family cruiser, easily handled by a couple, well proven as a serious passage maker. Shoal draft, with a centerline master berth aft, "Blue Diamond" is an unusual find, well maintained and certainly worthy of your personal inspection.

V berth: Forward is access to the chain locker. The generously sized berth has fiddled shelves along both hullsides, which are finished in rich teak staving. There is a hanging locker on the port side and a stacked pair of lockers on starboard, with a table and then shelf space above each respectively. A pair of brass reading lights and an overhead hatch provide light and ventilation to the space.
Saloon: Moving aft into the saloon, there are angled settees on both port and starboard, with storage beneath and below both of them. Above and behind are shelves and drop-front lockers. There is an inlaid centerline drop leaf table with bottle storage inside it. Ventilation is provided by an overhead hatch, two opening ports and a pair of dorade vents, while lighting is from a number of overhead and reading lights.
Nav station: Forward facing, the nav table is generously sized, will easily accommodate chart books and has a nice amount of storage inside. The seat is curved and has storage beneath it, there is a cubby outboard and overhead wrap around cabinetry for electronics, with shelving on top of that. Across from the nav station and beneath the companionway steps there is a wet locker for hanging foul weather gear.
Galley: Located at the base of the companionway on starboard, the galley is U-shaped, attractive and well thought out. The double stainless steel sink is oriented on centerline and forward facing. There is a large dry bin locker in the counter to the right of that and storage beneath it. Continuing around, the stove is along the hullside and has several drop down lockers and a microwave above it. Continuing around to the aft bulkhead wall, the refrigerated icebox has storage beneath it and a built in dish organize above.
Head: Moving along the corridor aft on port, the head is along the hullside and is simple yet efficient. Completely done in molded fiberglass, it is a simple wipe down to maintain. There is a manual head, shower seat and molded sink with pull-out shower wand. There is storage above and beneath the sink and a porthole for ventilation.
Master stateroom: Moving aft into the master stateroom, you will find a double berth on centerline, with teak staving along the hullsides and a night table type shelf on either side with storage beneath them. There is a step-up space on either side with storage beneath them and fiddled shelves along each hullside. On the forward end of the cabin there is a nice hanging locker as well as a storage cabinet. A vanity desk with a mirror above it is also on the forward bulkhead. Lighting and ventilation is by an overhead hatch, two ports, an overhead light and a pair of reading lights.
The engine compartment is accessible from behind the companionway steps, via a panel in the corridor leading aft and from in the master stateroom.
The entire boat is impressive in the fit and finish one finds; the light finish on the woods helps the space feel bright and inviting. The little details- like lining the hull sides in every locker- are finishes you expect to find on a high quality yacht, and this one doesn't disappoint. Sitting in the saloon for a few minutes just feels, well, comfortable...

Westerly is much more well known in Europe than they are on this side of the Pond. They are very highly regarded in England and known to be a top shelf builder of very strong vessels. A few of the build features are that 12 layers of cloth are used in the hull layup, with vinylester resins in the primary hull layers. The hull to deck joint is bolted and then laminated over, so it is virtually impossible to leak. That is capped with a thick teak rub strake for protection. The deck core material is Firet coremat as opposed to balsa, so were any moisture to get into the deck it would not have the same damaging consequences that occurs with the much more common balsa core materials. These are just a few examples of how well these yachts are constructed, which is also to Lloyd's specifications.

All lines are led aft to the cockpit for safety, making it easy to sail for a couple or single handed. The mainsheet is right where it should be on a proper ocean going vessel- by the helms person- and the winches are within easy reach as well. Simple to use and well thought out, it's not something most would notice at a glance, but it works.
