RIGGING/DECKS

This yacht is designed with ultimate simplicity and ease of handling in mind. The Mack stack pack, electric winches, and easy rigging system allow for total ease when sailing. The genoa is controlled by a furling line that runs along the port toe rail back to an electric secondary winch. With the primaries so close to the helm, single handing is so easy. Once away from the dock, set the autopilot into the wind, deploy the main and genoa from the cockpit and head out! If party hosting is your thing, there’s a ton of room in the cockpit for a bunch of people under way. The running rigging was replaced in 2011. The Mack sails were replaced in 2014. All of the running rigging leads aft. Even the jib tracks are adjustable from the cockpit.   After a fun day of sailing, drop the main into the stack pack, furl up the headsail with the electronic winch and use the electric windlass to deploy your anchor.

DAVE & ERIN'S RATING

When we travel with clients FAR out of town for yachts, we don’t like surprises when we get there. It’s embarrassing for me and can make for an expensive trip. With that in mind, we’d like to share my ratings of various systems on the boat so you’ll be as informed as possible before you come for a visit. My rating system is on a 1-10 scale with 10 being ‘perfect’ (in our opinion). Please view this list as a GUIDE only. Everyone’s idea of good and bad can vary quite a bit, depending on what you’re after, what you’ve seen, and your frame of reference. Our goal in doing this is to help you reach a comfort level with the boat before you invest time and energy to come and see it. We’ll summarize by saying that this appears to be an excellent yacht worthy of serious consideration.

Beyond telling you what’s great about the yacht, don’t you also want to know what it needs next? Every yacht, no matter how turn-key, needs something. Every owner has next year’s list of ‘to-do’s, right? We’ll also include in this section what we think the boat could use to take her from nearly-perfect to perfect and ready to go for an extended cruise.

Overall – 9.5/10

DAYDREAMER is very well equipped and shows quite well. We seldom get to represent truly ‘turn key’ yachts but this is indeed just that. She’s seventeen years old, but she looks much younger. She has a number of updates that make sailing and cruising a breeze including electric winches, a new stack pack mainsail system, brand new state of the art B&G electronics, marine air conditioning, and updated exterior canvas.

Design – 10/10

You can’t do better than the architecturally functional layout of this yacht. Every space is smartly conceived to enhance your cruising experience. The forward owner’s stateroom is a favorite of ours – you just can’t get a more spacious forward cabin with SO much storage space for long-range cruising in any other yacht in this size/price range. The main salon is huge and comfortable for a couple or a group. As chefs, we think DAYDREAMER has a fantastic galley with oodles of storage and tons of counter space. The aft cabin offers a great double berth for guests or a nice berth for a quick nap after your watch on a long sailing leg.   Catalina has mastered the functional and comfortable cockpit. The beamy stern allows for a very spacious cockpit that comfortably seats 7 people.

Interior – 9.0/10

The Catalina 42 has a spacious and comfortable interior. The upholstery is very durable and in great condition. The flooring is in excellent shape.   All the teak and joinery looks like new. The galley, sink counter tops, stove and oven look like they’ve barely been used. These owner’s really keep a well maintained yacht.  The cabin sole has a bit of wear but still shows well.

Exterior – 9.5/10

Her gelcoat and exterior finishes are holding up very well and get washed continuously. Her decks are in excellent shape Her canvas was replaced in 2013 as well an added Lewmar folding wheel for easy passage through the cockpit after a day of sailing. The white vinyl cockpit cushions were new in 2014. The cockpit is wide and spacious with over 6 ½’’ long port and starboard seating, a large folding cockpit table, and comfortable stern rail seating.

Electronics – 10/10

We love the brand new suite of B&G electronics. The B&G Zeus II chart plotter and radar display is state of the art and right where it needs to be in a nav pod right at the helm. With AIS (send and receive) and 4G radar, the chart plotter is an amazingly easy-to-use navigational aid. The new VHF radio and VHF remote are a handy compliment to the electronics.

Propulsion – 9.5/10

The quality and diligence of an owner is most often gauged in this space. DAYDREAMER had enjoyed a very conscientious owner who has kept systems healthy and functional. The layout of the engine room facilitates very easy access to everything for regular maintenance. This makes it easier (and cheaper) to keep them in top condition. The large opening hatch gives you unfettered access to everything.   The engine only has 916 hours.
