Description

The Sun Odyssey 37 is one of Jeanneau’s most popular models. Our offering is hull number 969, so you know any bugs were worked out of the design a long, long time ago! Designed by Jacques Fauroux and the Jeanneau design team, the Sun Odyssey 37 is a true winner not to be missed.

With a 12'1" beam carried far aft to the transom (providing an incredibly spacious cockpit and aft stateroom), and a 4'9" draft, ideal for the shallow waters of the East Coast Bays, Florida and the Bahamas, it's easy to see why the Jeanneau 37 was named Boat of the Year and received Top 10 awards when this model was first introduced in 2000. If you are looking for outstanding sailing performance, a great interior layout and superb fit and finish, this go-anywhere yacht is exceptionally maintained, nicely equipped and priced to sell. Very few of these models have become available on the used market in the US because of outstanding owner satisfaction, so if you are interested don't delay, because Athena won't be available for long! She is fully equipped including reverse cycle heat/air, electric windlass, refrigeration and more.

Accommodations

Forward stateroom- The large berth is a generous 6'8" long and 74" wide at the head. There is a large sail locker beneath the berth and a storage locker for the cushions to convert the dinette, eliminating the usual problem of where to stow them. Fiddled shelves line each hullside. At the aft end of the cabin on starboard is a double doored locker, with one side being shelves and the other hanging space; on top of that is a shelf. The port side has a sink, with double doored locker storage beneath it and a drop-front locker above. There is a mirror on the bulkhead above the sink. There is a hatch overhead with a shade and a fan for ventilation.

Saloon: The saloon is oriented with the U-shaped dinette to starboard. The dinette can easily convert to a double berth when desired. There is storage beneath the seats as well as behind the seat backs along the hull. Above and behind that there is a shelf and fixed port in the hullsides, with a drop-front locker on either side of the shelf.

Across on port is a two section settee. Storage is also below and behind that, with a drop front locker and shelf (with another fixed port) above. There is an insert that can be placed beneath the nav table to extend the seat so that it can be used as a single berth.

Nav station: The nav station is on port and just aft of the port settee. It is forward facing and has a curved seat for comfort and security at any angle of sail. There is storage beneath the seat as well as in a bin outboard of that. The nav top is generous and can easily hold a chart book, with good storage inside it. Behind the seat back is a hanging locker with a shelf above that.

Galley: The galley is located at the base of the companionway and on starboard. The double stainless steel sink is oriented facing forward, with the stove to the right along the hullside. There is an icebox with refrigeration between the two. There is storage below the sink and along the hullside with three drop front lockers there. The center locker has a pegged shelf for dish organization.

Aft Stateroom: Entry to the aft stateroom is behind the galley. As you enter and on your left is a double doored locker, with one side being shelves and the other hanging space. There is a shelf above that. Additional "end table" space is on the engine box at the head of the bed. The berth is a nice 6'5" x 7', so there is plenty of room for a couple to stretch out and relax comfortably. There are two opening ports, four overhead lights and a fan for lighting and ventilation.

Head: Across from the galley is the entrance to the head. The stainless steel sink is set in a Corian counter top, with storage beneath it and a mirrored medicine cabinet above. To the left of this is a tinted glass divider and door to the seperate shower stall and head. There is a drop-down seat to cover the head when showering if desired and a hanging wet locker for storing your foul weather gear when you come off watch. The overall space is molded fiberglass, making for easy wipe down and cleaning.

Hull and Deck

The hull of the Sun Odyssey 37 is solid fiberglass and laid-up by hand, with Kevlar for added strength and resistance in high-load areas. The balanced rudder is fiberglass, and the stock is solid stainless steel. There are two self-aligning rudder bearings.

Full-length longitudinal stringers stiffen the hull. The hull is supported athwartships by a grid system of floors. The deck is balsa-cored, and the mast is deck-stepped. The cockpit of the Sun Odyssey 37 is typically huge, well-thought-out and quite comfortable.

The cockpit seats and sole are covered with teak, which not only looks nice but also provides secure footing. The seat backs are angled for good lumbar support, and there are two large lockers, with dedicated storage for the life raft to starboard.

Access to the transom step is through a removable helmsman's seat. A fold-down ladder and hot-and-cold freshwater shower make a swim all the more inviting at the end of the day!
