Description

Jim Taylor Yacht Design and the Sabre Design Team joined forces to create a new Sabre sailing yacht.  Launched in January 2004 and in October 2004 was awarded Cruising World Magazine’s Boat of the Year Award as Best Mid-sized Performance Cruiser as well as Overall Domestic Boat of the Year.  Hull lines, underwater appendages, and rig were drawn by Jim Taylor Yacht Design. As with all Jim Taylor designs, the shape of the hull and under-body ensure that it will be easily driven and will sail well in a variety of conditions. The deck, deck styling, and interior were accomplished by the Sabre Design Team. The result is a yacht that, like her siblings, established a benchmark in sailing that will endure for many years to come.

But details from the past are just part of the story. Keeping up with technology has to go hand in hand with Sabre’s desire to build the finest possible sailing yachts for their clients. The Sabre 386 hull is built using vacuum bagged, closed-cell, cross-linked PVC Divinycell foam and structural E Glass, which gives her one of the strongest, lightest and most durable structures available today. Her deck is also cored with Divinycell. The medium displacement hull and balanced sail plan are very efficient and offer excellent performance in light air while remaining very stable in heavy winds. She is equally at home on the racecourse, as a coastal cruiser or blue water passage maker.

Sabre has been building beautiful, handcrafted yachts since 1970 and is highly regarded for their timeless designs and exceptional quality. Handcrafted in Maine, the 386 is one of the most sought-after models to come from the fifteen years of collaboration between Jim Taylor and the Sabre design team.

Below decks, you will find a spacious and functional interior layout that is nicely appointed, with materials and fixtures typically found only on large custom yachts. The cabinetry work is fashioned from American Cherry with dovetail joinery drawers, arched, louvered locker doors, Ultraleather seating, and teak and holly soles throughout.

Her knowledgeable owners are extremely conscientious and detail-oriented. An experienced yachtsman, he has personally researched and overseen all of the improvements in SPIRIT, with a “spare no expense” attitude. The owners have really done a great job of maintaining her to high standards, making their Sabre one that will turn heads in any harbor. "SPIRIT" is clean, well-maintained, and has been sailed primarily in the low salinity waters of the Mid-Chesapeake Bay.

Call now to arrange to see this exceptional example of Maine Built Craftsmanship. She won’t last long!

Accommodations

Master stateroom:  The master stateroom is forward, with an 82” x 26” x 62” centerline berth. There is step-around access on either side and four drawers beneath the berth. Above the berth on either side are louvered drop-door lockers and a wrap-around cherry shelf with fiddles. On starboard and aft of the berth is a cedar-lined hanging locker. On port along the saloon bulkhead is a Corian countertop with a sink and a large cherry framed mirror above it. There is double door storage beneath the sink and a drawer and two lockers outboard of that. There is a fiddled shelf above the upper locker.  Lighting and ventilation are provided by an overhead hatch, 2 opening stainless steel ports and two Hella fans. Additionally, there are four overhead LED lights. The headroom in here is 6’1”.

Saloon:  Moving aft into the saloon, on starboard is a 76” long settee, with water tank and battery storage beneath it. Across on port is an L-shaped settee that is 77” long. That settee can convert to a comfortable 42” wide berth. The cherry dinette table is bulkhead mounted and has fiddled shelf storage behind it. The table drops down and can seat three or you can open the other leaf and seat two more people on the other settee.

The mast is wrapped in padded ultra-suede.  Above and behind each settee are fiddled shelves forward, with open shelf space aft of that. On port are two shelving lockers with louvered doors and across on starboard one shelving locker with louvered doors. Continuous cherry grab rails line both house sides throughout the saloon and galley areas for safe moving about the cabin.

The entire saloon/nav/galley area has four fixed house sidelights and two opening ports with gas-assist lifts. Overhead are two Dorade vents and an opening hatch. There are two reading lights, four LED overhead lights and three LED strip lights. Headroom is 6’2” in these areas.

Nav station:  The nav station is at the aft end of the starboard settee. The center seatback of the settee is designed to swing around and provide a seat back you are using the nav station. The nav top has room for a chartbook and good storage inside. Additionally, there are three drawers beneath it. Outboard. Electronic and electrical controls wrap around the Nav area and are within easy reach.

Galley:  The galley is L-shaped and at the base of the companionway on port. The galley sinks are oriented toward the centerline. Beneath the sinks is a shelf with side-by-side drop-front doors. A locker, two drawers and another small drop front storage space are beneath that. There is a flip-up countertop extension to the right of the sink. To the left of the sinks is a waste bin with a Corian lid. Moving around along the hullside is the refrigeration. There are two lids with gas-assist lifts and a front access door below the counter. Behind and above are 2 large lockers with shelving. Next aft is the gimbaled 3-burner stove. There is pot and pan storage beneath it and a fiddled shelf above and behind it. To the left of the stove is a fiddled recess cubby that would be good for storing oils and that sort of thing. Above the stove is the microwave oven.

Head: The head is at the base of the companionway on starboard. As you enter, the toilet is directly ahead of you and the countertop and sink are to the left. The entire space is made of laminate and unitized fiberglass for easy maintenance. There is locker storage beneath the sink and behind the toilet, while above are two lockers with sliding doors and counter space above them. The cabin sole areas are divided between the toilet/sink area and the separate shower stall, each with a drain. The shower stall has a teak seat, with a large locker above and behind it and shelf space above. Lighting and ventilation are provided by one opening port, one fixed light, an overhead hatch and 3 overhead LED lights. Headroom in here is 6’1”

Aft stateroom:  The aft cabin is located on port and has 6’1” headroom. As you enter there is a seat to your right.  A cedar-lined hanging locker is behind it and another locker on the forward end of it. The athwartship berth is 78” x 58”. At the head of the berth are two fiddled cubbies, with fiddled shelf areas above them. Ash staving lines the hullside and there is shelf space above the engine box on centerline. Lighting and ventilation are from two overhead hatches, one opening port, one Hella fan, two reading lights and four overhead lights.
